Starting pitcher Mark Schroeder put on a dazzling performance for Edina with a complete game shutout of Hopkins Sunday afternoon at Braemar. Schroeder allowed 4 hits, 1 walk, and struck out 7 that keyed the victory for Edina. The win pushes Edina's Riverview League record to 4-1.
The 1 hour 30 minute contest didn't feature much offense; only 9 combined hits. Left fielder Erik Nelson went 2-3 with a run scored for Edina. Kirk Kenneally, Reggie Dunlop, Dan Bissonette, and Eric Klefsaas all had hits as well. After 5 innings, Edina maintained a 2-0 lead and added two more insurance runs in the 6th on a throwing error by Hopkins. Erik Nelson and Dunlop singled to lead off the 6th with catcher Kyle McDermott coming to bat. McDermott sucessfully laid down a bunt but catcher Ryan Cohn decided to throw to 3rd base. His throw sailed beyond the 3rd baseman down the left field line allowing Nelson & Dunlop to score.
